A letter to Mr. Huckabee...

Dear Mr. Huckabee,

I see that you are running for office again.

As for me, sir, I will be voting for a fighter, not a pastor. We don’t need a shepherd. We need a Knight. Someone ready to do battle. Save the shepherding for your flock, pastor. We need a warrior. Are you ready for that? I’ve looked at your record in office, sir. I, personally, find it wanting. Your record is not that of a true conservative.  So, in my opinion, you are not anything at all resembling what I will vote for. For your information, I will vote for Rick Perry unless a more worthy warrior shows himself.

Now, there will be many who will vote for you simply because you were once a pastor. One of the things I find amusing is that one of the tenets of today’s Christian theology is that the “calling” of “Pastor” is irrevocable; i.e. "once a pastor, always a pastor".

For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.(Romans 11:29 ESV)

If that is so, why are you doing TV? Why are you running for office? Why are you out in the world making big bucks and NOT in your church practicing your “calling”? Did you lose said “calling”? Did God say you could go? Are you in rebellion against that “calling”?

In that verse, notice that “gifts” is plural, but “calling” is singular.  Many are confused by what they are taught. They confuse tasks and gifts with "callings". They call gifts "offices" and say that the gifts and tasks ARE callings and that there are many.  They are not. Gifts are gifts and tasks are tasks.  For instance, there are some who believe they are called to be a prophet.  Wrong.  The prophetic is a gift.  Try reading Ephesians 4 carefully and you will see that I am correct. The gifts are given to every man: "man" being all-inclusive meaning all mankind, male and female. The gifts of Ephesians 4, all of them, are given to all of those who are born again with a regenerated spirit. (By the way, in case anyone should think so, I'm not talking about the so-called "gifts" of  I Corinthians 12.  They are NOT gifts.  They are the manifestations of God's spiritual power.)  They are part of the spiritual DNA that all Christians are "born again" with.  Therefore, I am of the opinion that there is only one calling for Christians shown here:

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified. (Romans 8:28-30 ESV)

It cannot be true that there are different callings because God is not a respecter of persons.  For there to be different callings, then God must be a respecter of persons.  He specifically says, in two places, that He is not. (Ephesians 6:9, Romans 2:11)  Tasks are given according to experience and ability.  All of the gifts are given to all of his children.  The manifestations are available for all. However, there is only one calling.

I know that this will set me apart from many of my friends, but, I believe this to be true.  And, I think I can prove it, should anyone wish to challenge.  Many think there are many different callings but my research has shown to me that there is only one true "calling" as stated above. The only thing we have been "called" to do is to be conformed to the “image of his son”. There is no other "calling". There are gifts that are given and many tasks that can be assigned, yes.  But there is only one calling.

So, Mr. Huckabee, which is it? Are you rebelling? Or, do you agree with me?

Still, regarding the presidency, until you can prove to me that you can and will fight with all your might, I will not vote for you.
